The Missouri Pacific Station, Wichita, Kansas, after the 1941 renovation

In 1941, the American Locker Company Ltd. started the renovation works on the MoPac Station at Wichita, Kansas.

The MoPac Station was found adequate to meet all traffic needs for the future, including the arise from the inevitable influx of war workers to the Wichita aircraft industry, so all the works were done only on the inside of the station.

On the exterior, the original brick construction and finish was chemically washed and colorfully trimmed. The main entrance was brought up to date with new doors and steps. Many odl openings, not regarded as necesssary were bricked and refinished. Where itnerior light was required, these oepnings were filled in with glass blocks. New approach walks were laid down and the old type platform, paltform shed and an unsightly sign were removed.

On the inside the entire interior was modernized both as to decorative finish and furnishings. In the waiting room, a false ceiling suspended below the original, greatly improves the appearance and reduces heating requirments. The new ceiling is ivory-colored insulating panel board with a border of the same material in a contrasting rose-tan.

Over the existing plaster walls, decorative gray asbestos-cement wallboard was applied, with a green wainscot, finished with aluminum moulding. Four cast-iron columns, structurally necessary, were boxed in and finished like the walls.

Floors were levelled and coered with asphalt tile, in marbleized russet and green tones.

At the entrance, glass blocks were utilized to form a vestibule.

Single, double and triple lounges, upholstered in green, red and blue have been placed in the waiting room for patrons' use.

The formerly enclosed ticket office with conventional window has been eliminated. Instead, a modern alrge ticket coutner opens into the waiting room.

Modern offices, similarly treated, for the local freight agent, as well as for the passenger agent, open directly into the waiting room.

The lounge rooms for men and women, relocated and enlarged have sand0finish plastered walls and ceilings above a 5' wainscot of glazed tile. Floor are ceramic tile.

Four telephone booth are accessible in the waiting room and conveniently recessed in a corridor, patrons can find self-service luggage checking facilities. These comprise 5 cabinets with a total of 16 standard lockers and 3 lockers designed for oversize luggage.

Illumination throughout the building is by fluorescent lighting.
