The Garlinghouse model #HR-10 | James R. Killebrew, A.I.A.

No. HR-10 - This house is an attempt to achieve new standards of privacy and livability through vertical zoning. The plan is conceived as three levels especially adaptable to hillside sites. Each level is a zone, the middle level providing space for family activities while the upper level is a retreat for the parents. The children's bedrooms are at the lower level where direct access to the backyard play area is available. The three-level scheme also provides opportunity for the dramatic contrast of spaces such as the high spacious ceilings of the family level as opposed to the low intimate atmosphere of the quiet living room. Such contrasts can help make everyday living a more exciting and rewarding experience.
