A compact vacation house by the lake

This vacation house was built in a mobile  home factory and can be towed on wheels anywhere. The one shown here was towed to a vacation-retirement community, Bella Vista Village, Arkansas.

The vertical wood siding is abraded cedar plywood; fascia and panels under the windows are coated with polyvinyl. Two decks were added - one large enough for entertaining, plus a small one, just right for a family size outdoor dining room.

Handsome prefinished materials define this living. Furniture arranging is easy - and there's space for a comfortable grouping like this so the whole family can lounge away a rainy day. On sunny days, the location of the sliding glass doors lets the room become almost a part of the decks on each side.

The compact kitchen-dining area is packed with vacation-style efficiency. Because of the dead-end U-shape of the work area, cooking requires almost no walking. Behind the louvered door, there is space to install stackable laundry equipment.

The sliding glass door provides light and ventilation and makes the outdoor eating area as handy as the one inside.
