1949 William Levitt's Long Island prefab suburb. He was the first to offer as standard in his homes: oudoor barbecue, washing machine and built-in TV sets. Named Levittown, this small community near Hempstead provided affordable housing for returning veterans. This was the first truly mass-produced suburb.
