The 1956 Bethlehem steel framed homes

Right after World War 2, there was a huge demand for new housing. GI's were returning home, getting jobs, starting families and having babies. And all this generated as I said a deman for housing. The pre-war prefab/catalog homes concept evolved, the design and concepts being influenced by the atom, jet and space. New materials developed during the war were now available for the general public, as well as materials like aluminum, that before the war were very expensive, now, thanks to new technologies became very cheap.

Many of the new buildings, prefab or individually designed took advantage of the new materials and technologies. An Bethlehem Steel was there to provide. And in the next series of articles we're going to dive into some gorgeous MCM residences that used steel beams provided by Bethlehem.
