The Chris-Town Mall, Phoenix, Arizona

It opened August 24th, 1961 on Bethany Home Road, and it was the first fully enclosed shopping mall in Arizona.

A forest of brilliant-hued cages and exotic birds decorates this courtyard at the west end of the 1,000 foot mall. "Chico", popular talking parrot, greets shoppers with a cheery, "Welcome to Chris-Town".

High, wide and handsome, with graceful, slipper-arch stairways and multi-colored ceiling panels. The magnificent waterfall fountain is a principal conversation piece among shoppers.

The spacious enclosed mall, 1,000 feet long, offers a constant comfortable temperature, winter and summer. Park-style benches and lush landscaping afford the shoppers rest and relaxation during their visits to the center.

An aerial and front view of America's largest refrigerated shopping mall. The center houses over 60 stores offering merchandise or service in a constant, comfortable temperature, winter and summer. Thousands of flowers flourish on the mall, as well as hundreds of rare exotic birds.
