Toll House Cookies recipe from 1953

Toll House Cookies

1/2 cup butter
6 tablespoons brown sugar
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon hot water
1 1/8 cups flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
1 package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream butter with sugar. Beat egg into mixture. Dissolve soda in hot water before adding to batter. Sift flour and salt together into mixture. Lastly add nuts and chocolate morsels and vanilla. Drop by half teaspoonfuls on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes in a 375° oven. Makes 50 cookies.
