Thunderbird Lodge, Eureka

The Thunderbird Lodge was a chain of motels, sometimes including a Sambo's diner, that operated across the USA. The chain had, by far, one of the best if not the best advertising totem.

This one in Eureka, once stood at 5th and Broadway, it was replaced by a Best Western.

At first it had 76 rooms, color TV, heated pool, direct dial phones with free local calls, room coffee, Sambo's Restaurant and Thunderbird Lounge-Liquor Store. It soon expanded with 4 more rooms, and it added radios, thermo-controlled heat in bath and bedrooms and a conference room. In the 1960's it was expanded again to 100 rooms.
