BH&G Five Star Homes #2903-D

The Five Star homes in the #2903 series were built in the Lortondale development, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Builder Howard Grubb wanted to avoid a "subdivision look" without losing the advantages of mass building. So he asked architect Donald Honn for a "family" of individual designs that would hold costs down, yet produce a group of good-looking, good-living houses.

The layout of the homes is the same. Roof varies only in grid overhang and the direction of slope. Walls change only in texture, pattern and color - not in basic framework. Window location in each house is quite similar, but various shapes and sizes make windows a flattering part of the design.

Around back, house opens to a terrace. Louvers outside living room window block afternoon sun, but not view. Door back of bush opens to garage.

Living room stretches across almost the entire back of the house. The doorway joins this room and kitchen to the back yard terrace and play area. Glass runs from floor to ceiling.

Kitchen is screened from living room by a counter island. Its sliding panels of hardboard, plus the opennes above cabinets, make kitchen, dining and living areas each seem larger than actual floor space.

This version solves the two-car parking problem and provides a sheltered route to the front door. Carport added in front permits garage to be used as storage area, if neede. Long, low roof line is cut out to brighten the entry.
