Army rides the airlines | Aviation Week, July 25, 1949

The certificated airlines' newly-effective 10 percent fare discount for authorized travel by military personnel is expected to make this kind of scene lose its novelty. A group of Army Transportation Corps specialists is shown above at Chicago en route from Fort Eustis, Va. to Fort Lawton, Wash., via a special United Air Lines flight. Through the 10 percent discount, the Domestic Airlines hope to increase their share of military transportation business (which totals $100 million annually) from the present two percent to about 10 percent.
