An unusual 1965 vacation home from New York

This vacation home is a one-of-a-kind house. From the outside, the house has a crisp, symmetrical look. But the striking shape wasn't planned for looks alone: with it comes the unusual privacy of two 20x20 units and the spirit-boosting vista of a 15-foot-high, skylighted ceiling.

Add the wide deck and covered breezeway and this house becomes a natural choice for the round-the-calendar activities of an ocean-beach site.

As the plan demostrates, the double-unit idea creates easy-paced zoning that belongs in a vacation home. Activity areas are entirely separate from sleeping quarters; sliding-glass panels open the living room to the deck for 336 square feet of wide-open lounging space.

In the living room, the pyramid ceiling seems almost to double the size of the 20x20 room; the skylight set in the squared peak brings in an out-of-doors air.

Built-in cabinets and bunk-beds make a neat, comfortable and inviting child's bedroom. In this unit the pyramid roof was reserved for storage, with pull-down steps in the hallway ceiling.
