The building was designed by noted Los Angeles architects Wurdeman & Becket. They also did the itnerior design and, like in other high end department stores of that era they provided a mechanical conveyor system that delivered purchases directly to the parking lot. It opened its gates in 1947 as the "store of tomorrow".
