The Seversky Aircraft Company was founded in 1931 by Alexander de Seversky, a Russian expatriate and WW2 veteran. In 1936 the company, based in Fermingdale was awarded its first military contract. In 1938 they designed a passenger aircraft for transatlantic flights, but it was never made.
