A fantastic shot of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II in 1956

As she prepared to set out on her first royal tour to Nigeria, Queen Elizabeth II sat for a new portrait amid the British crown's splendid trappings in Buckingham Palace. In the picture taken by Portraitist Cecil Beaton, the queen wears a white silk dress with the sash and star of the Order of the Garter, a diamond diadem, a diamond necklace and miniatures of her father George VI and grandfather George V. The throne she occupies in the ballroom of the palace was constructed for the 1902 coronation of her great grandfather. Edward VII. The gold-embroidered crimson velvet of the throne's canopy came from the great 1911 coronation durbar in Delhi, India where George V sat with his queen, Mary.
