The long way home, 1956 on NBC-TV

The thoughtful man above, a 42-year-old New York film writer named Burton Rowles, is reliving the most harrowing hours of his whole life. He is watching final rehearsals of a TV show, The Long Way Home, which dramatized his own sudden and unexpected heart attack, his stunned awareness of impending death, and his struggle to survive.

Rowles's true story was performed on Robert Montgomery Presents (NBC-TV, Mondays) in a dramatization written by Wallace and Rowles. Movingly acted, with deep respect for its encouraging message that a severe heart attack is not necessarily disabling or fatal. The Long Way Home stirred a New York Times critic to call it "a memorable television achievement."
