The iconic McDonnell XHJH-1

Here's the iconic McDonnell  XHJH-1,  shown here in front of the McDonnell plant.  It was an experimental transverse-rotor helicopter and the first successful twin-engined twin-rotor helicopter in the world.  It had twin side-by-side 46 ft (14 m) rotors at the end of pylon wings which turned in opposite directions. Each rotor was powered by a 450 hp (336 kW) Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B Wasp Junior engine.

Its first  designation XHJD-1 was on 27 April 1946, it was changed to XHJH-1 prior to its first flight.
