AMBITION, hate and revenge run rampant in Gary Cooper's new picture, "Bright Leaf." Only one person, Lauren Bacall, is happy over Gary's return to Kingsmont. Lauren loves him, but he's determined to wed Pat Neal, whose tobacco tycoon father had him banished from the town. Gary forms a cigarette company, riser to wealth and power, breaks Pat's dad and forces her to marry him. Pat gets revenge by ruining him. Although Lauren's bitter over Gary's rejection of her, she still loves him and goes to him when he needs her.
