First Flying Twin-Engine Helicopter: Built for U. S. Navy by McDonnell Aircraft Corp., XHJD-1, world's first twin-engine helicopter to fly takes to air in test flight at St. Louis. Two 450-hp. P & W Wasp Jr. engines give over 100-mph. cruising speed and lift useful load of up to 4,000 lb.
