The first flight of the Boeing 367-80, N70700

Boeing 367-80, N70700 is a quadjet prototype built in 1954, with a flexible design that was the base for the KC-135 tanker and the 707 airliner. The jet can cross the continent in five hours with a payload of 130 passengers, propelled by the 40,000-pound thrust of its jet engines. Hurriedly planned to meet British competition (the Comet III), it was still being built in March 1954. The ground tests of May 1954 uncovered a landing gear fault, which was immediately corrected. The frist test flight took place on July 15, 1954.
