Burdine's Sunshine Fashions department store, Fort Lauderdale

 




This beautiful modernist department store was designed by Robert Law weed, with interior by renowned Loewy Associates. It opened in november 1947, after only one year since the construction started. The opening ceremony was attended by city and county dignitaries and was presided over by George Whitten and Fort Lauderdale's mayor.

In its 195,000 sq.f. it also had a Men's Grill and a Hibiscus Tea Room.

Also as you can see from the images posted here it went under a series of transformation throughout time. I am unable to set a timeline of those transformations as all the postcards I have are not circulated.
