A living-kitchen concept from 1945

The big picture above shows one way to arrange a living-kitchen combo. Service entrance is just below coat and laundry closet (#1). The laundry itself is equipped with a dropped sewing table, ironer (pulled out from beneath the counter), a sink, washing machine. In kitchen area, in addition to refrigerator, double sink and range, is rolling butcher block and table with pan rack. Dining anr living area with table, fireplace and hobby desk at right. At top is eating terrace with a serving counter along left side.

From the dining area people can see easily into the kitchen and carry on conversation between two sections. Whole living-kitchen is painted in rich, warm colors to help carry out the idea that it is a place for fun and companionship as well as for work. Buffet table for serving meals outdoors on the terrace is visible at right.
